Welcome To Beacon Life And Learning Centre

Beacon Life And Learning Centre will be a self sustaining ethical blend of community land-use, animal sanctuary, therapeutic care programmes, vocational training, vegetarian catering and volunteering opportunities in North Wales.

Join us in a journey together as we assemble everything needed to implement our ideas, hopes, and dreams for a project that we believe will be unique, illuminating, ethical and self-sustaining.

We want you to be a part of this and to share your experiences, your skills and your passion. You can choose at what level you commit.

  • This is a project aiming to blend the ethics, inclusiveness and diversity of a progressive animal sanctuary, wildlife watching, organic growing, woodland enterprise and vegetarian food provision with opportunities in vocational training placements, running a number of community land projects that engage people around different themes and produce a site that is a buzzing hive of activity.
  • This is a project that wants to use its land and animals to provide a structured programme of health, social and educational care services for vulnerable groups of people
  • This is a project offering its land, its one single valuable resource, for therapeutic gain in the community.
  • This is a project aiming to break new ground.
  • This is a project that is built upon democratic ownership of its activities.
  • This is a project seeking to derive its income from several sources and aims to be solvent within 5 years.
  • This is a project to embrace all sectors of the community and seeks to build partnerships with other community groups in North Wales.
  • This is a project that has benefited hugely from the open access given to it by many other community groups as we have shaped our path. We intend to be a truly open and embracing organisation and welcome all who wish to assess or learn from our experiences.

A New Animal Sanctuary: Why This Is So Different

For the first time a body of people have come together to financially plan the beginning of a new animal sanctuary from scratch before committing to a sea of animals.

For the first time the overriding theme in realizing the dream of a new animal sanctuary will be self-sufficiency.

For the first time we will create an animal sanctuary that will trade; and trade in an ethical way, a way that is an integral part of the community that it intends to serve.

For the first time this will be an animal sanctuary that will provide a range of services and training opportunities for the community in North Wales.

For the first time this will be an animal sanctuary that will not be so acutely reliant upon public giving; its business plan will balance the options of investment, service provision, trading and donations to enable a diverse revenue stream so necessary for proper growth and long term survival.

For the first time we want to incorporate the running of an ethical professional animal sanctuary into a multi-use site that involves our community at many different levels. The land and its animal residents will be at the centre of the project.

For the first time the business plan that we will produce will be the rudder behind the planning of this animal sanctuary and will guide the site’s multi-use activities.

For the first time an animal sanctuary project will be closely allied with a major voluntary sector trading organization. Partnership working and mutual support will be key to the success of both whilst retaining a consistent independent steering council.
